[Men's Track & Field] Hernandez Qualifies, Corcoran Sets Mark for SXU Men s Track & FieldPublished by
Hillsdale, Mich. – A provisional qualifying time of 31:06.49 in the 10,000 meter run (10K) by sophomore Abel Hernandez (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) and a record-breaking performance of 14:35.85 in the 5,000 meter run (5K) by senior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) were the highlights for the Saint Xavier University men's track & field team as the squad split between the Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays in Hillsdale, Mich., and the Benedictine University Twilight Invitational in Lisle, Ill, this past weekend. Hernandez easily made the NAIA's provisional qualifying time of 31:30.00 in the event and narrowly missed by less than seven seconds the automatic qualifying time of 31:00.00. It was the second fastest 10K time ever run by a SXU runner. Corcoran broke his old school record time in the 5K and automatically qualified (14:45.00) for the 2015 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships with his new time last weekend.
