[Track & Field] Hawk Track & Field Rewriting IIT Record Book

Comments

Chicago, IL - The Scarlet Hawks returned to action on Saturday, competing in the Margaret Bradley Invitational, held at University of Chicago's Henry Crown Field House.  Head Coach Calin Hantau pointed out that every athlete that represented Illinois Tech turned in a personal best or school record performance. "It's exciting to see all of them develop and get closer to where we need to be."

Joseph Yassin opened the day for the Scarlet Hawks with a school record in the weight throw.  Joe added over 2.70m to his previous record, landing the 35lb implement at 12.01m.  He came back later in the day and bettered his shot put record with a 13.15m throw.

On the track, Tyler Haag was putting together another fine performance by cutting time from his own 200m school record, stopping the clock at 24.01.  Mitchlie Martyr put his name in the school record books with an effort in the 400m – 53.56, good enough for a sixth place overall finish. The two of them teamed up with Phil Cano and Ethan Montague and finished fourth in the 4 x 400m relay.  The time, 3:35.29, improved IIT's school record in this event by almost 3 seconds.

Teva Venet had another great showing in the triple and long jump.  He finished fourth in the long jump and third in the triple.  His triple jump effort measured 12.50m, a mark which broke his own school record.

"We produced six school records and two or three close attempts by some of our other athletes. I am looking forward to our next indoor meet, hoping to set some high standards for the next years," added Hantau.

The last scheduled indoor meet for this indoor season is set for Friday, March 7th at Carthage College.
