Freshman Zach Matthiesen provided some excitement for the home crowd as he and a competitor from Missouri Baptist University raced shoulder-to-shoulder through the final lap of the 1-mile run. Matthiesen used smart tactics on the indoor track, passing on the straight and forcing his competitor to his outside shoulder before the homestretch where he pulled away through the finish, finishing in 4:38.57.
