Women's Track and Field shines at Illinois College meet

Comments

JACKSONVILLE, ILL. Without a doubt, this was the culminating point for many of the track and field athletes to team up for one last regular season meet to showcase their speed, power and endurance. The women's track and field team shined on the track and the field with a school record-setting performance in the discus throw from Lyssa Winslow on her sixth attempt in the ring. She pulled out a 40.36-meter performance for a collegiate best, improving her school record by 3 feet to 131 feet, 5 inches. Just before that happened, Winslow was able to show why she is so good at throwing. With a focused and competitive mindset, Winslow hucked the shot put for 12.53 meters (41 feet, 2 inches), an outdoor collegiate best. Throwing with a nationally-ranked hammer thrower helped Winslow to get close to throwing her school record. She spun the ring and released the hammer for a best mark of 43.38 meters (142 feet, 4 inches). Teammate Gabriela Schwenker threw a lifetime best in the discus throw on her final attempt as well to 25.37 meters (83 feet, 3 inches). She is now ranked ninth on the school's top-ten performers list. Schwenker also threw the javelin with teammate Alaina Carlson. Schwenker threw 14.47 meters (47 feet, 6 inches) while Carlson had a best mark of 23.02 meters (75 feet, 6 inches). Carlson also jumped for a lifetime best of 1.42 meters (4 feet, 8 inches), now earning the rank of eighth on the school's top-ten performers list. All in all, the women's field-event squad had a great day with lifetime bests and school records. Winslow had her most successful meet to-date winning the shot put and discus, while scoring second in the hammer!
